Taman Sains Selangor 2

Working progessing well: Concentration is currently being placed on infrastructure development at Science Park 2.

Big thrust forward for SSP2

THE Selangor Science Park 2 (SSP2) was created as an expansion of the PKNS Selangor Science Park 1 located in Kota Damansara. It is now gearing for a big thrust forward.

The 330.5ha SSP2 is located at Bukit Baja in Sepang. It is a project under the massive Klang Valley 2 (KV2) development scheme.

The SSP2, located just off the North South Link Expressway (Elite), is surrounded by an extensive highway network with connections to the KL International Airport (KLIA) 12km away and the Westport and Northport in Klang, about 30km away.

It is also about 25km from the KL central business district and 23km from Shah Alam. It has the country’s administrative capital Putrajaya and ICT hub Cyberjaya as neighbours.

There are plans for an industrial area, commercial development, residential precinct, recreational area, entertainment centre, medical centre and other communal facilities.

According to Selangor State Investment Centre (SSIC) chief executive officer Datuk Mhd Jabar Ahmad Kembali, the essence of SSP2 is the fusion of key elements in one dedicated location for the exclusive use of technology-based industries.

“This concept allows technocrats the chance to be innovative, giving them a chance to perfect their craft,” he said.

Jabar also said a RM56mil dedicated flyover was being constructed at the SSP2 and was scheduled to be completed by the middle of next year.

Once the flyover is completed, it will provide easier and faster access to commuters to the SSP2 from the KL city centre and the KLIA.

“We are currently concentrating on providing infrastructure for the SSP2. We are laying out all the roads and other facilities for the investors here,” Jabar said.

He said about RM300mil had been allocated for the infrastructure development in the SSP2.

Now, various activities are taking place at the SSP2 as its main tenant Q-Cells is carrying out construction work of its plant.

Q-Cells is the world’s largest manufacturer of photovoltaic cells (solar cells).

The SSP2 facility is the company’s only plant outside Germany.

Jabar said investors planning to open plants at the SSP2 would be given special assistance in obtaining the permission and approval.
